Unlocking Your Full Potential: The Power of Personal Synergy in Seizing Opportunities
Share
I want to talk to you today about great synergy. Synergy is a concept where two things come together and create a result that is greater than the sum of their parts. A situation where 1 + 1 = 3. You might say to me, that’s not possible. You can’t have 1 + 1 = 3, it’s mathematically impossible. And that’s true to an extent.
But what I’m talking about is something that happens when you meet something that perfectly compliments your abilities. Like when a kid with active feet meets a soccer ball, when someone that can swing hard gets a baseball bat put in their hands, when someone that can hear pitch perfectly learns about music. There is some connection made that creates greatness.
Imagine two companies, each strong in their own right, coming together like puzzle pieces to create a picture far more magnificent than either could on its own. This phenomenon, known as synergy, is the holy grail of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A). It's the magic that happens when businesses with complementary strengths unite, producing results that surpass their individual capabilities.
Synergy is such an important concept in M&A, it gets an entirely separate calculation and value. It can create millions or even billions worth of value. So In general, you don’t want to do deals without synergy. You want to look for deals that have the best synergy possible because that will lead to even greater returns.
This concept can be extremely powerful for people too. What I’m talking about is the ability for you to look at the possibilities in front of you in regard to your own unique abilities and skills.
Finding Your Synergy
A lot of entrepreneurs and business executives get stuck in the early stages trying to figure out things like do I have the right product? What is our target audience? How am I going to find customers? Is our brand messaging ok? These are fine questions to ask, but the problem with this is that they’ve skipped a step.
Before asking about the customer, before thinking about the product, ask yourself what am I bringing to the table that is special? If I start this business, how will my unique skills create an unfair advantage that will make me better than everyone else? If we go into this new market segment, what about my team will put us ahead of the pack? You want to choose the things that align with your unique strengths.
When you can do this, you’ll be able to cut through the fog like a lighthouse. Just by developing this skill, you’ll be able to find the situations for you that create the best synergy. This is going to naturally separate you from your competitors. It’s going to give you the game plan you need to deliver value to your customers. You’re going to have confidence, clarity, and belief in everything you do. This is what great synergy does.
It's not focusing on small details. It’s not trying a thousand different things hoping something works out eventually. No, those are deals that don’t have any synergy with you. That’s weak synergy. You need great synergy.
This was something that I struggled with quite a bit. Throughout my life I’ve struggled finding direction. I’ve worked for companies big and small and had some decent success. I’ve started companies that didn’t do great and that didn’t feel right with me. It wasn’t until I learned about the concept of synergy, after achieving a certification in Mergers and Acquisitions.
I realized that it’s not enough to just be good at something. It’s not enough to know how to do something to be truly successful at it. You must understand what is the synergy that only you bring to the table that will create an unfair advantage? What are the things that you can do better than anyone else?
For me, I was always good at business and strategy, however it wasn’t until I realized that I have a unique ability to solve problems for people, and a sincere desire to see others do well, that I started to discover my synergy.
This led me to my current situation. I’m here to fuse my abilities to people’s problems. To fuse my business training, skills, and experience to people’s unique problems to build a platform that has the potential to lift more people up than I ever could working in a corporation.
Once I realized my synergy, things started to align. Setting things up was a breeze, I’ve started companies before. Running a website is no problem, I’ve done that before. But the key thing is that the ideas and writing started to flow out like they never have before.
I’m positioned to help people achieve amazing success in their business endeavors. This is because I’ve found a deal with great synergy. I can align my unique background in engineering, sales, marketing, business management, and problem solving to a digital business that focuses on connecting with and helping other people achieve their business goals.
Now, this wasn’t something that happened overnight for me. It’s taken 40+ years of my life to figure this out. And, I’ve had my fair share of doubts along the way and still do. But, it doesn’t have to take you 40 years to figure it out. I know you’re probably thinking that sounds great. Sure, of course I want to do things that I’m good at, but it just doesn’t work for me. Or maybe you’re thinking I haven’t done anything special; I don’t have any great skills; I can’t bring anything special to the table. Or maybe you’re thinking that I’m a no-one, why should anyone listen to me?
Don’t talk yourself out of success. It is exactly those things inside of you that set you apart and make you special and set up for success. Don’t surround yourself with doubters. There are people out here that want to see you succeed, me included.
If you struggle to find synergy, that is exactly what I’m here for. If you have problems or questions in business all it takes is for you to reach out to me and ask your questions. I promise I’m not going to be rude, dismissive, or pushy. I’ve been in your shoes; I know exactly how vulnerable that can feel. To admit that I need help is something that almost no one does. Be different, take the first step and you will be rewarded.
Now, I’m not perfect, I’m not some amazing visionary that can predict the future. But, I am committed to showing up every day, trying to help everyone that genuinely connects with me. Because, I know that if you succeed I succeed. You have goals and ambitions that you can and will achieve. You can overcome failure and set back. You are closer than you think to success.
Colonel Harland David Sanders was born in 1890 and spent 39 years of his life working as a filling station operator, insurance salesman, and steam engine stoker before starting to sell fried chicken from a small restaurant in Kentucky.
He found his great synergy, developed a secret recipe and unique method of cooking fried chicken that led to the creation of the company known as Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). Here’s the thing, the first franchise location opened in 1952 when he was 62 years old.
What am I saying here? Two things stick out. First, if we all spent time thinking about what our unique skills are we might avoid years’ worth of struggle before we find our great synergy. And second, to help speed things up it helps to find people that will lift us up and support us on the journey. Today, KFC is worth an estimated $6.7 billion US dollars and has restaurants in 147 countries around the world. Don’t settle for small synergy, find your great synergy.
